The range that I prefer is free to the public and is on BLM land. The same agency also built it. With a very long roof with numerous stations. Not attended so all users are on the "consideration" plan. Considerate of all there and when there is a lull in the shooting, the call goes up that it is ok to check targets, when done "the range is hot" is heard.
I refuse to pay to shoot. If no public ranges were available, then it's simply a short trip out into the boonies to punch paper or whatever. Or just to walk around killing rocks, tree limbs, etc.
A range where there is inborn civility, good manners - and where ethics and safe conduct happens because of good old common sense, based on consideration for your fellow gun fellows.
Damn, that guy in the header picture for this category is sure gonna get a bad case of scope eye. But that's easier to explain to his semian buddies than if the wife had popped him.
Exhibiting very poor form.
Not to mention that his? her? shoulder is going to take the full force of recoil. Can't teach these new shooters nothing! :)
We taught them to shoot but we are not going to teach them how to build rifles.
They wouldn't understand it if you did.
